Tecna R&D department just released a new cost-effective ELISA test kits for the quantitative detection of antibiotics residues in food. B ZERO® STREPTO is the very first test kits with no calibration curve, designed and developed for the analysis of streptomycin and dihydrostreptomycin in honey, milk and animal tissues. The test kit has almost 100% cross-reactivity for both streptomycin and dihydrostreptomycin indeed.

What does “no calibration curve” mean?

Common ELISA test kits require analysts to run a number of standards per session, in order to calibrate each test. The innovative B ZERO® line of test kits does not require to spend any reagent for the calibration, since a virtual “master curve” is provided by Tecna for every kit lot. This represents, for the analysts, a significant reduction of assay time and kit usage, being therefore an effective way of saving money. Thanks to the master curve, the price per sample is very low even if a reliable contaminant quantification is possible like in common ELISAs.

STREPTO measuring range for milk and honey is 2 – 400 ppb, while for muscle it is 5 – 1000 ppb. The sensitivity of the assay was assessed within an in-house validation, that was arranged in compliancy to EU Decision 2002/657: by means of spiking experiments, the CCb was set at 5 ppb streptomycin for both milk and honey and at 20 ppb for animal muscle.

STREPTO is the very last kit of a successful line of low-cost products launched on the market few years ago and since then has been adopted by a wide number of food industries. The B ZERO® port-folio includes ELISA test kits for the quantitative detection of chloramphenicol, sulphonamides, tetracyclines and corticosteroids in different foodstuffs.
